CSEC-MALAWI

Book Aid International Partnership

About the Project

The Book Aid International Partnership is a strategic collaboration between the Civil Society Education Coalition (CSEC) and Book Aid International, designed to strengthen access to quality learning resources across Malawi’s education sector. This initiative supports CSEC’s mission to promote the right to quality, inclusive, equitable, and relevant education for all, and reflects our vision of a society where every person enjoys education that fosters critical thinking, innovation, and lifelong learning.

Through this partnership, CSEC receives a diverse selection of books including academic texts, vocational guides, fiction, reference materials, and inclusive formats like Braille and audiobooks which are distributed to all institutions and schools that deal with education in Malawi, from primary schools to universities, teacher training colleges, technical institutes, Prison and community reading spaces.

Project Goals and Milestones

The goal of this partnership is to bridge the resource gap in Malawi’s education system by providing high-quality, relevant books that support both formal and non-formal learning. The initiative also targets Education Technology (EdTech) by equipping teachers and learners with materials that enhance digital literacy and support blended learning environments.

Key milestones include

  • Distribution of books to institutions across all education levels and sectors.

  • Prioritization of essential subjects such as English language skills, vocational training, teacher education, medicine, law, inclusive education, ICT, business, agriculture, and development studies.

  • Inclusion of Braille, large print, and audio formats to support learners with special needs.

  • Support for EdTech integration, including books on digital skills, computer science, and technology-enhanced teaching.

Why the project

At CSEC, we believe that books are more than pages they are pathways to empowerment. Through our partnership with Book Aid International, we are transforming libraries, classrooms, and communities into vibrant learning hubs. Our team conducts thorough needs assessments to ensure that every book delivered is purposeful and impactful. Whether it’s a phonics reader for a primary school, a law textbook for a university student, or a guide on digital teaching for educators, each donation reflects our commitment to equity, relevance, and innovation in education. This story is part of our broader journey to build a literate, tech-savvy, and empowered Malawi one book at a time.

Our Story

Malawi’s education sector continues to face challenges in accessing up-to-date and inclusive learning materials. Many schools and colleges lack basic textbooks, reference tools, and digital learning resources especially in rural and underserved areas. This partnership was formed to address these disparities by providing curated book donations that match the real needs of educators and learners. By targeting both traditional and technology-driven learning, the initiative ensures that students and teachers are better equipped to thrive in a modern education landscape.
