The Mastercard Foundation, in coordination with the Civil Society Education Coalition (CSEC), is facilitating a high-impact Co-Design Workshop at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe. The purpose is to help shape the Leaders in Teaching (LIT) initiative for Malawi, building on lessons from other African countries and aligning with national priorities in secondary education.
The two-day workshop brings together stakeholders from government agencies, academic institutions, local and international NGOs, and global education experts. Discussions are anchored around four key pillars Recruit, Train, Lead, and Motivate each aimed at supporting the teacher lifecycle and improving education outcomes.
Participants are reviewing diagnostic data, sharing insights from Malawi’s education sector, and exploring solutions tailored to local needs. Topics include gender inclusion, digital literacy, school leadership, teacher motivation, and rural staffing challenges. Breakout sessions are driving collaboration across sectors, all focused on designing a context-driven roadmap for improving teaching and learning in secondary schools.
This workshop marks an important step in coordinating national efforts to elevate Malawi’s educators and create a future where every student has access to quality learning and meaningful work opportunities.
